tri-county TITANs win the UFal air it up passing tournament!!!

04/24/10 – (San Bernardino) It was a bright sunny day in San Bernardino and the Tri-County Titans entered their first competition on Saturday in the UFAL Air It Up Passing Tournament. “They were ready to compete as they have been waiting for some competition other than themselves at practice,” stated co-owner Jim Bowers.

It clearly showed as they stepped on the field first against the Southern California Heat. The Titans were able to strike first after stopping the Heat’s first possession. They scored on four plays and got their sideline and the fans excited. Although they dominated the first half, the Heat was not going to go down lightly. They literally put on the Heat and tied it up at the end to take it to overtime. The Titans gathered themselves and realized that this was a game and the Heat were not giving up. The Titans immediately made a statement and won in overtime 32-26.

Defensive coordinator Kevin Dotson was not impressed with his defense. “The players know they are earning their spots right now. If you don’t play smart, you don’t play at all” said Coach Dotson. “I have some of the best defensive players in the league. There is no room to make mistakes as we are here to win it all, NO EXCEPTIONS!”

The defense showed their coach they fully understood what he said as they shut out and dominated the Orange County Ravens in their semi-final matchup. The Ravens seemed to have quit as they were being punished by the powerful defense of the Titans. The offense of the Titans didn’t seem to help matters any as they were able to move the ball down the field as they pleased. They didn’t need to get big yardage either. It was about 6 yards a completion as they walked the Ravens to the endzone. The game ended abruptly with a 14-0 finish and sent the Ravens to consolation and the Titans to the Championship.

The Championship game was nothing different as the Titans continued their domination. They faced the California Tide, which was determined to topple the Titans from winning their league event. Former Titans backup quarterback, Michael Ceasar, led the California Tide to face the Titans in the Championship. It was obvious he had something to prove to the Titans coaching staff. He almost did when he threw a touchdown for the first score of the game to put the Tide up 6-0 on the Titans. Unfortunately, that didn’t last as the Tide were only able to put up one more score as the Titans defense intercepted the ball 3 times to put the game away. “It was the band of brotherhood displayed through adversity that enabled us to pull through and turn the game around” expressed defensive coach Tim Lane.

“I was not only proud of our defense, I was very proud of our offense and their poise when things sometimes went wrong,” stated Bowers, “They adjusted, backed each other, and prevailed through it all to come out with a win every time.”

The Titans leadership was very proud of how the players performed on Saturday. Although the players and staff know they have a lot of work to do still, they were happy they came out on top. “Our players understand they are being evaluated every day and this was an opportunity to see where they are. We will get better, we will complete, and we will win” said co-owner Nate Turner.

“As a 22 year military veteran, the importance of organization is critical for mission accomplishment. We clearly displayed these critical elements in the tournament” expressed Coach Grady Tucker, “It’s still early but we are very impressed with the teams unity and the coaching synergy. We can clearly tell this program is being run by individuals that have participated in all levels of competition.”

Congratulations Titans players, staff and fans for a great accomplishment. Titans hit practice hard once again on May 1st to put in more hard work and prepare for their next competition.

Make sure you check out the Titans on June 5th as they try to take over the 5th Annual Titans Air Show and avenge their championship loss to the Southern California Steelers. This will be a great event as there will be over 16 great teams competing against each other to take home the 2010 championship.

TITAN ALLSTARS REPRESENT IN ALLSTAR WEEKEND GAME

The Tri-County Titans had 6 players make it on the 2009 All-Star team this season for the South/East Division. Offensive line leader #62 Luis Frausto, is one of the key linemen that has always worked hard for the offensive and had at least 24 key blocks this year. Because of the help of Frausto, running back #28 Anthony Davis is now a 3-time all-star as well. Davis didn’t finish the season due to injury, but still ran the ball 62 times for 296 yards averaging 4.8 yards per carry. He also had 4 receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown coming out of the backfield. Capping off the offensive all-stars was dominant receiver #6 Reno Kaloni, who led the league in both receptions(46) and yards(735). Kaloni has led the league in the last 3 years and continues to be dominant as the years come and go. Unfortunately, all three players were not able to finish their seasons due to injuries. Because of this, they didn’t participate in the allstar game as well.

We also had 3 players on the defensive side of the ball that were honored as all-stars for 2009. Defensive lineman #56, Jason Sagaio is a playmaking machine with 37 tackles, 8 for lost yards. He also had 2 forced fumbles and 3 pass deflections. Sagaio is a very aggressive player that understands the game very well. He has been a big part of the success of the defense. Due to prior engagements, he was unable to participate in the allstar game as well.

Our dynamic duo cornerbacks, #7 Donte Gamble and #1 G’Vaughn Francis, were not only the key factors for the Titans, but the key factors for the allstars during the weekend. Gamble, a lockdown corner that every quarterback feared because of his superior talent and great speed. Gamble played at San Diego State University and is currently working on his chances to play in the NFL. He most recently was on the Spike TV show, 4th and Long with Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irving, which gave Gamble a chance to try out for the Dallas Cowboys. Francis led the LCFL with 7 interceptions, 4 of which he returned for touchdowns. These two players combined, were the most intimidating cornerbacks in the league. In the allstar game, Gamble did what he always does and that was lock up every receiver that stood in front of him. Francis used his finesse and skill to make receivers work. He finished off the day with a key interception in the endzone to put the game away.

The South/East prevailed 31-14 over the North/West and along with all the great players from the league, our players stood out among the best of the best.

owner jim bowers meets with patti labelle

Jim Bowers, owner of the Tri-County Titans, spends some time with Ms. Patti Labelle to thank her for her continuous support for the teams associated with the LCFL. “That is the 3rd time I had the chance to meet Ms. Labelle since my involvement with the LCFL.  Knowing how passionate she is about the league, inspired me to represent my organization to the best of my ability.”
